How do you ‘push onwards’ though, I regularly get ‘the alarm bells’ but can’t seem to get that deep into them.

Try not to “push” onward. Relax into the alarm bells. Let them be there and relax into non resistance

Do I have to ‘get to the bottom of it’ or just let the feelings be there? I have no idea what the deep lying beliefs are that cause them and I don’t think I ever will.
