We all have a tendency to think of our personal issues as complex and varied; to feel as if (because we’ve led completely different lives from everyone else in the world) our problems must be entirely unique to us.
I must be struggling to manifest because of this, and this, and that. I must be unhappy because of him, or her, or because of all those things I experienced way back when.
It’s not that our assessments of what’s holding us back are untrue. You very well may be struggling to manifest because of this, or this, or that. And, you very well may be unhappy because of him, or her, or all of those things you experienced way back when. But it’s worth asking whether your struggles are born out of each of these apparent problems individually, or if these individual problems (and the ensuing issues they cause) are born out of some deeper, more fundamental mistake.
If I cut power to your home, a lot of seemingly unrelated problems will arise simultaneously. Your air conditioning will turn off, your refrigerator will power down, and your lights will go dead. You’ll end up saying, “I am hot, my food is all rotting, and I can’t see because it’s pitch black in the house.”
Your problems will seem complex and varied. And, even if you work to get to the bottom of each of issue, you still might not find a solution. You’ll say, “Aha! I am hot because my air conditioner is broken, my food is rotting because the refrigerator is broken, and I can’t see because my lights are all off.” That’s a great insight, and everything said would be true, but that won’t necessarily mean you’ve discovered the ultimate truth of your predicament.
Your struggles to manifest and your inability to find happiness are both connected via the same ultimate truth. One mistake leads to all issues. Today, we’re going to discuss that one mistake so you can begin to remedy it.
