Let’s take a step back from the heady metaphysical stuff and discuss everyone’s favorite subject — the powers.
The mystical both fascinates and frustrates. Because of this, an unfortunate “chicken or the egg” situation arises: People feel that the only way to 100% confirm their spiritual beliefs is to experience something transcendent—something that, by any traditional explanation, should be impossible. They also feel that the only way to earn themselves a transcendental spiritual experience is to have 100% faith in their spiritual beliefs. You can see the problem we face, then.
In reality, though, I think both the “chicken” (the transcendent experience) and the “egg” (the presence of absolute faith) parts of this equation are born out of the same misconception.
It’s something of a paradox, really. Your reliance on “faith” — or, more accurately, your relative lack of faith — is what defines what is or isn’t “transcendent” in the first place. Thus, the desire for the “transcendent” experience maintains a hard limit on how much “faith” you’re able to hold onto.
I’m aware I’m being oblique here.
This is all a long way of saying that the reason the “powers” seem out of reach to you is because you’re looking at them the wrong way. Like an optical illusion, they seem impossible until you understand how you’ve been viewing them from the improper perspective. The issue is neither with you nor with the illusion — it’s with the relationship between you and the illusion. When you change the angle at which you stand, everything will suddenly make sense.
So, today, we’re going to change our angle. And as a result, we’re going to learn how to read minds. Buckle up — fun stuff incoming.
